Some of you might know I have a nine month old son. He is the perfect first child to have. I'm sure down the road when we decide to have another we'll realize we know nothing about parenting. I'm sure the next one will be a terror... we've had it too easy for too long. But that's not what this post is about.
My son seems to enjoy Heavy Metal. And not just the Godsmack type but the Hard Core, Unearth type. It's funny watching him laugh and bounce around on his wobbly legs. He's hardly been exposed to this type of music and the hubby was mimic-ing that type of music. We got a huge smile and giggle. Not the reaction we expected. so we put it on the radio and waalah: Rocker Baby.
Can I also say the little man is trying to walk? He just mastered crawling a few days ago (we didn't think he'd crawl at all) and he's been standing for months now. He does the usual: holding onto fingers/items while walking... tonight he decides he's going to completely let go and take two steps before he falls into Hubby's arms. Good thing he was there.
Kid is growing up too damn fast. I mean we spend the first couple of months doing everything for him (besides swallowing, dirtying diapers and sleeping) and now one by one tasks are being taken away. "No. I can eat on my own." "No. I can walk on my own." No. I can pick it up on my own." ... and I'm sure that'll continue to grow.
Too damn fast.
I had an interesting experience today. Story time at the local library. I believe I've mentioned that I'm writing a children's book (the first of many, I hope). So we spend quite a bit of time at the library. We meaning my (9 months today!) son and I. We usually walk the few miles there for the workout and we leave with a truckload of books.
A few days ago, I saw a sign-up sheet for story time. Most of the kids already on the list were much older by at least 9 months. The sheet said "Birth-3 years" so I signed us up anyway. Other moms can be scary sometimes and I have been determined not to fall into The Mommy Hole. Nothing against those who jump in... I just want to remain who I am as a person.
Baby T and I pulled into the parking lot (a minute late already) and I see a whole row of mini vans. I think a verbal "uhg" escaped my lips. For some reason, "Mini Van Mafia" came to mind. Is there something out there called that? If not maybe that's the title for my next book.
The story time turned out to be activity time. There is no way on this great earth that you are going to get kids of those ages to sit down - and stay there. Baby T loved it though. I'll admit, I had a good time too. We played with egg shakers and the little guy is an expert at those since we have a few at home. T mostly people watched. He takes after his momma.
It was a little awkward for me being there. There were lots of Mommy Types. Very clean cut and talking only in Baby Voices. And here I am - tattoos and all. I don't have a lot but two are visible and some people have opinions about Moms With Tattoos. Anyway, the other moms were nice enough. Two actually said "hi". One even asked how old T was. Everyone else seemed nice and like they all know each other well. I kept my Friendly Face on and welcomed discussion but I'm not going to force myself on anyone. All in all, not a disaster. Maybe the next two Thursdays will go better though.
In other news, I'm walking with a limp today. (Part of my excuse for being a minute late this morning.) Baby T and I decided to take a SMALL walk that turned into three hours of trudging through the woods. Hey, we got to know the area. This is why I pack like we are moving out when we go for walks. Got to be prepared. And I was. We had lunch by the water and walked through many trails with a stroller that is not meant for trails.
So why do I have a limp?
Five minutes into the dang walk I sprained my ankle. I use to do this all the time when I played soccer and ran track so this is old news to me. I kept my shoe on until I got home and then the swelling showed up. The workout was worth it. The added bonus was finding different parts of town that I never knew existed... when I finally found my way out of the woods.
Many, many adventures these past two days.
